Tiered Outdoor Fountains

Tiered outdoor fountains may have been born centuries ago but they really weren't exquisitely perfected until much more recently.  While the Roman-inspired fountains were once perfect and only reserved for the rich and those with mass amounts of property, now they are designed in smaller styles that are ideal for any home.

Traditional

The three-tiered outdoor fountain has remained a timeless piece that will certainly never go out of style.  Only now, these classical water features are created from a wide variety of materials and many different designs so even a traditional fountain can be made to look incredibly contemporary.

Non-Traditional

As mentioned, tiered outdoor water fountains have seen many changes through the years.  Today, they are designed in many different ways and with a variation in levels, manipulating the water to flow from one tier to the next.

  • Jugs – Large jugs of different sizes have become very popular in the creation of tiered fountains.  You can find them made in stone, resin, fiberglass and some even will have a planter on top to house some leafy greens or flowers for a really unique look.

  • Cascade – These types of tiered water features are seen in gardens, flower beds and along decks and patios.  They are a series of shallow dishes or planters that cascade down from a high point to the ground.  Terracotta is quite popular with this style of fountain.

  • Geometric Shapes – Contemporary living has sparked a real interest in bold elements like squares, rectangles, spheres and pyramids so it only makes sense that they would be popular shapes to use in the creation of tiered water fountains.

  • Bi-level – There is no rule that says that a tiered fountain has to consist of three levels.  Two levels of different sizes works just as well, as long as the water flows from top to bottom, that is all that you need for a soothing sound.

The great thing about tiered outdoor fountains is that there are almost always very shallow places of water found on them which are ideal for birds and butterflies to stop and take a drink.  Of course, natural colorful wildlife will always enhance any outdoor living space.

Tiered fountains just have a very striking, elegant appeal to them regardless of how many levels that they have or what they are made from several are made from Cast Stone.  They are a timeless tradition that can compliment any garden, patio or landscaping!
