Floor Fountains
There are a few things to take into consideration when shopping for water features such as size, location and design. Are you planning on placing your fountain outdoors by a deck or patio or in your home? Some are designed specifically for one place or the other while others are universal and can be used anywhere like the Black Onyx Gardenfall floor water fountain.
How much space do you have available?
Floor fountains vary drastically in size from quite petite to rather large. An oversized one will look incredibly crammed in a tiny space while a small fountain will look lost and misplaced in a larger area. Water features tend to naturally become the focal point of a room so scale is very important.
Floor water features not only vary in size, you'll find that they're available in a multitude of different styles and gorgeous materials such as slate, marble, copper, glass, stainless steel, acrylic, aluminum, resin and more. Therefore, no matter if you're trying to find a floor fountain to compliment your current decor or to inspire an entire room makeover, you are sure to find something that you absolutely love!
Most water fountains will come with all of the accessories that you need but there are also some add-ons available as well. Fun ways to spice up your fountain are accent lights, color filters and even water pumps that allow you to change the speed in which the water flows.
Maintenance
Floor water features require very little maintenance but like anything else in your home, a good cleaning from time to time is recommended. Indoor water walls typically only need cleaning once every four to five months however outdoor fountains should be done a little more often due to environmental elements, dirt and bird droppings.
Basically, all you need to do is empty the water and wipe it down with a cloth and the appropriate cleaner, depending on what the fountain was made from. When you fill your floor water fountain back up, it is recommended to use distilled water rather than water from the tap unless you use a product such as Protec or Fountec, this will help minimize hard water buildup or mineral deposits.
Large floor water fountains will usually require the use of a water treatment product to prevent algae and keep the water clean but this will really depend on the size, material and pump. Always make a point to keep floor water fountains at their recommended water level so the pump remains completely submerged to prevent damage and to promote proper operation.
